Simonsig - (South Africa)

The history of Simonsig Estate runs parallel to the history of South African wine culture. As pioneers and trailblazers in the wine industry in South Africa, the Malan family is a name and reference that internationally placed Stellenbosch on the (wine) map. In 1971, Frans Malan produced the very first "Méthode Champenoise" (Sparkling Wine) in South Africa and was one of the first to introduce a renowned Cape blend to the market (Pinotage combined with typical Bordeaux grapes such as Cabernet and Merlot). He was also a co-founder of the first Stellenbosch wine route. Today, his sons Johan and François, and grandchildren François-Jacques, Christelle, and Michael proudly continue his legacy. The now iconic estate (with a magnificent view of the Rodeberg) enjoys one of the best terroirs in Stellenbosch and places ethical, responsible winemaking in high regard. All employees are part of the Simonsig family, benefiting from general training programs, including care and support for children. The impressive range of wines reflects the work of generations and ranks among the top in the African wine world.
